Post 19: How was the portrait project?

In this portrait project, I learned many new techniques. First, I learned how to draw a portrait by a gridding technique, but I did not use it to draw my portraits. Next, I started to paint my portraits, where I mixed paints. Throughout this project, I did not like the class time, where it was short because I did not have the time to finish one portrait. So, I hope that we can have a longer class time for art class. Lastly, I learned a new vocabulary word for art: tints. Tints are the opposite of shades, where I now know that tint is the lighter value of the shade. Therefore, this unit of portraits taught me many new skills and concepts.

Post 18: What color I see?

In this picture, it states the phrase “color theory” with all of its color on the color wheel. To begin with, this picture is developed in a pixel system that combines and categorizes the picture’s color. So, the colors of each picture is combined and categorized by colors that make unity of the color theory. Next, the colors in this image are positioned from warm colors in the middle to the cool colors, which are spread to the edges of the image. So, the red, orange, and yellow are placed in the middle, and then blue, purple, and green is place near the warm colors. Last, the left edge is categorized in the white color, and then the right edge is the natural colors. So, the white and natural colors are created of course naturally, but it is also the mixture of all of the colors on the color wheel. Therefore, the “color theory” is described on the color wheel, where it has the primary, secondary, warm, cool, complementary, and other relationship between colors.

Post 16: Carrie Mae Weens

The day my teacher introduced Carrie Mae Weens to my art class, I did not really like her artworks. But, to do this blog post, I need to find an interesting photo that was created by Weens. I really tried to find a photo that interested me, but I could not because I just did not like her portraits or artworks. So, I had a hard time finding an interesting photo. However, I had to find a photo by Weens, so I choose this photo because it created a great contrast and a focal point. The lady on the railroad track is standing in the middle, and it looks like a path that the lady wants to eagerly go through. Even more, the path is like a future path because the trees and the lady is just standing in the middle and the trees create a perspective of a faraway distance. Therefore, Weens' photo attracted me by my observation of a future path.

Post 17: SPRITE- social

This painting shows a great social interaction because I believe that when it is a meal time, it a warm and unity of a family. To begin with, the painting subject matter is in a luxurious dining room. In this painting, it provided thorough details of the dining room. So, these details describe the luxury and fancy way of lifestyle of the family. Moreover, the lifestyle of the family would also teach the table manners because the nice and elegant family, of course taught the meaning of a family. So, when meal is served, the family needs to sit together in a table and have dinner. This social interaction reminds me of my family sitting together and having dinner. The foods are freshly cooked and hot, which gives a comfort of warmness in the body. So, dinner is a meal that should be cherished because it creates family’s unity and warmness by the whole family. Therefore, this painting is analyzed into the social category because family is a major topic under the social category.

Post 15: Os Gemeos

Os Gemeos is a street artist that has his own unique type of artwork. To begin with, this picture was painted by Mr. Gemeos. He drew this picture on a big building, which I think show unity because the picture is painted on one side of the building. Moreover, this building is old and maybe empty because the building’s windows were closed and board up. So, the painting took the building to a unique type because since the building is closed for some certain reasons, but the painting gave it a more attractive attention by its picture. Furthermore, the attraction is the part where Mr. Gemeos is trying to send his message. His message is referring to the public because as a street artist, he should know that whatever he draw or paint will be seen in the public. Therefore, Mr. Gemeos is a unique artist because he painted on a building that was initially closed down, but he painted his painting on the building, which is giving his message and attention to the public.
