Fernand Leger, Railway Crossing, 1919

This abstract drawing expresses a very complex and busy feeling. The movement represents the busy motion. Also, the painting reflects a map like structure because the arrow and the lines give the painting divisions. The shapes also includes into the painting because in the background you see circles and rectangles. Since the background is colored, some spaces were left blank like the line in the middle of the picture. The line ended the middle ground to the left side of the picture. So, that white space is just black and stopped my thought to the left side. Other elements or principles I observe are uncertainty. I cannot able to find where this painting is leading me into because the painting is confusing. I do not know where to start looking and where to end. It brings me around the painting, so I first thought that the painting was a busy and crowded place.
